Yes paw paw oil treats intestinal infections in both animals and humans. The cysteine proteinases found inpawpaw fruits is essential for treatment of worms. Laboratory experiments have demonstrated clearly that these compounds damage intestinal nematodes of animals by a novel mechanism, targeting the cuticle which at first blisters, and then is disrupted and weakened sufficiently to enable the internal hydrostatic pressure to rupture the body wall and result in the disintegration of the worms. Pawpaw latex, which contains high concentrations of four distinct cysteine proteinases, has been shown to have potent activity against worms of the stomach, small and large intestine in rodent model systems in vivo, causing dose-dependent reductions of worm burdens within safe treatment margins that resulted in little or no pathology . Pawpaw extracts have also been shown to reduce intestinal helminth infections in humans and in other monogastric animals including pigs.
