While "security" and "safety" are often used interchangeably, they have distinct meanings.

*Security*: Security refers to the protection from external threats or dangers, such as crime, terrorism, or cyber attacks. It's about safeguarding people, assets, and information from intentional harm or unauthorized access. Security measures are often proactive and designed to prevent or deter threats.

*Safety*: Safety, on the other hand, refers to the protection from harm or injury, whether intentional or unintentional. It's about preventing accidents, injuries, or damage from occurring due to various factors like environmental hazards, equipment malfunctions, or human error. Safety measures are often focused on mitigating risks and minimizing harm.

To illustrate the difference:

- A security camera is designed to prevent or deter crime (security).
- A safety net is designed to prevent injury from a fall (safety).
